November Somatic Day Workshop
Authentic Movement: An Introduction to the Principles and Practice of Moving and Witnessing
1st November 2026
With the shades of autumn inviting a mood of mellow reflectiveness, Penny is delighted to share details of an inclusively accessible one-day Somatic Movement workshop, inviting you to feel, follow, watch and witness, your body’s essential flow.
‘Authentic Movement: An Introduction to the Principles and Practice of Moving and Witnessing’ is a stimulating one-day introduction to the mover–witness framework, run in partnership with somatic-movement practitioner Amy Voris, at The River Room, Halton Mill, Lancaster, Sunday 1st November 2026.
At its purest, the mover–witness framework is a practice of moving with eyes closed while another person witnesses, without judgement or interpretation. Rather than directing or shaping our movement, we will practise noticing what arises and allowing movement to develop at its own pace. From this simple structure, a rich and insightful field of experience can emerge.
Beginning with guided movement and quiet attention, we will invite paired explorations of moving and witnessing, with no expectation to perform or produce anything. The day includes space to reflect and integrate through drawing, writing, and verbal sharing, in a warm, and supportive environment.
Co-facilitator, dance-maker and somatic movement therapist Amy Voris brings two decades of experience in collaborative artistic and therapeutic practice, informed by her training in Integrative Bodywork and Movement Therapy with Linda Hartley.
Who is it Suitable For?
Following an insightful three-day intensive summer retreat on this theme, this new one-day workshop has been designed to offer a welcoming and immersive introduction to the practice.
Suitable for dance and movement practitioners with some prior experience of somatic or mind–body practice, both those new to Authentic Movement, and those wishing to return to, or develop their practice.
Just wear comfy clothes, bare-feet or socks and bring a bottle of water and a willingness to engage in a deeply rewarding self-reflective process.
If travelling from away, please ask for recommendations for places to stay and eat if required.
Places on this small-group workshop are limited.
Please visit www.pennycollinson.com for full details, or email: hello@pennycollinson.com to book your place, or ask further questions.
I hope you can join Amy and myself in this revelatory movement practice.
